Vitamin B2 / Riboflavin first appeared in 1920 when it was successfully isolated from milk. Since 1990, it has been possible to produce riboflavin in a biotechnological way, namely by using a certain fungus, Ashbya gossypei. Furthermore, nowadays vitamin B2 is produced by various strains of Bacillus Subtiles, a genetically manipulated bacterium.

Vitamin B2 is found in many foods and can be easily ingested through food. Some of the main suppliers of riboflavin are:

various vegetables such as kale

In principle, the intake of vitamin B2 from animal foods is preferred because the organism can process them more easily.
